(Miami, FL September 26, 2018) -  This fall, the City of Miami and the Florida International University Metropolitan Center will begin work on the much anticipated Affordable Housing Master Plan for the City, following an agreement signed earlier this year.

"This agreement is only the beginning of a robust process and partnership that will help us address our City's housing needs," said City Manager Emilio Gonzalez. "Affordable housing is a key part of our resilience efforts and we are always exploring solutions that will bring our residents relief and an improved quality of life."

The Metropolitan Center’s researchers will help develop the plan upon the issuance of the most recent U.S. Census data. The Center will work with the City’s Department of Community and Economic Development to hold public meetings in different City neighborhoods in the Spring of 2019 to discuss the data findings and gather feedback.

“We are pleased to partner with the City of Miami in the preparation of the forthcoming Affordable Housing Master Plan. The master plan will provide the City with a comprehensive analysis of housing market conditions that will provide the underpinnings for clear and workable affordable housing policies and strategies,” said Ned Murray, Associate Director of the Florida International University Metropolitan Center who will serve as Principal Investigator on the research and planning initiative.

The overarching goal of the plan is to quantify the City’s current housing landscape, and then outline specific, data-driven strategies that can help City leaders tackle any affordable housing shortages. The City’s Affordable Housing Master Plan is set to be issued by mid-2019.
